    Rhode Island State House

    82 Smith Street
    Providence, RI 2903

Mo to Fr from 08:30 AM to 04:30 PM

Located in downtown Providence, this state house is a class apart from other ones around the country. In fact, the self-supporting dome is the fourth largest in the world, only surpassed by those from the Taj Mahal, St. Peter's Basilica and the Minnesota State Capitol. Some of the notable features include the 'Bell' room which contains a replica Philadelphia Liberty Bell and a rotunda flanked by ornate stairways. The National Register of Historic Places added it to its list in 1970 and McKim, Mead & White (one of the most famous American architectural firms at the time), designed it in 1895. Don't forget to take one of the tours to check out the full-scale portrait of George Washington in State Room before you leave!
