    »Tribal Seeds

    October 23, 2014 8:00 PM

San Diego band Tribal Seeds is one of large contingent of California-based bands devoted to the continued proliferation of Jamaica's greatest gift to the music world, reggae. Combining live instrumentation with electronic components, Tribal Seeds draw on ska, as well as a more recent strain of UK dance music called dubstep. As is the case with even the earliest Jamaican reggae music, bass is one of the foremost draws of reggae music and its major influence on today's electronic music. The Tribal Seeds have built themselves an intimate, loyal following upon these weighty bass foundations, and tour extensively as a result.

It might not be apparent to the casual listener, but Minus the Bear plays extremely technical alternative rock music that's subtlety virtuosic. Employing abstract time signatures and uncommon chord progression to mellow indie rock songs, the quintet from Seattle, Washington explores sonic territory that's easy to listen to even though it's difficult to play.
