Marcelita's Mexican Restaurant is an award-winning Hudson tradition, having been open since 1978. Its menu aims for authentic Mexican food instead of the more common American Tex-Mex, which to Marcelita's means "flavors rather than hotness." Marcelita's offers the usual combination plates, enchiladas, nachos, burritos, and tacos. There are also several dinner specials, such as Veggie Fajitas with squash, zucchini, yams, broccoli, peppers and onions, or Pollo con Frijoles Negros, a chicken breast black bean stew. The menu is divided into “smallest,” “small,” and "not-so-small" plates. Small plates are tapas-style, such as Artisan Cheeses or Kobe Beef Short Rib Dumplings. This family-owned kitchen, which they call a "commercial version of your Grandmother’s house," was opened in 2004. There is no table service; customers place their order at the counter and can eat in the casual, mauve dining space. However, the food is authentic, made from scratch, and the servings are huge. Signature dishes include Stuffed Cabbage (Golabki) and Smoked Kielbasa. They have revived their famous and award-winning Stash’s Pierogi, which is the same recipe, but now called Babushka’s Pierogi. They are also known for their sauerkraut, potato pancakes, and dumplings. Don’t leave without some Kolachky (pastries)! Hunan's décor is simple, elegant, and significantly different from the normal Chinese restaurant's chinoiserie—the walls and tablecloths are white, with brightly colored abstract paintings adorning the walls. The menu includes Chinese and Thai standards, such as Mongolian Beef and Pad Thai, but also makes some interesting diversions, such as Tangerine Beef or Ginger Scallion China Sole. Available in small and large platters, the food is on the expensive side due to its locality. Apart from the regular menu, daily specials are put up on the restaurant. Do try them out. Their full service bar offers some nice selections of wine, beer, signature cocktails and sake. A nice little corner serving creative dishes to satisfy different palates.
