    September 02, 2014

Based in San Antonio, Texas, Nothing More crafts a progressively-leaning alternative rock sound. With massive rock and roll freak outs and sugary pop nuggets woven throughout each of its songs, the group has collected an international following since its formation in 2003.

    »Feed Me, Teeth

    September 03, 2014 8:30 PM

Originally based out of London, trio Teeth has since relocated to Brooklyn, New York and continued to grow its underground fan base. While the band often goes for a shock value, it doesn't skimp on the quality of its music, weaving heavy dance rock beats with quirky electro. Teeth also has a penchant for remixes--the band has remixed CSS, and has asked several other artists to remix their own tracks. Though still an underground band, Teeth could easily cross over into becoming a more known electronic group.

    »Ty Segall

    September 03, 2014 8:00 PM

Ty Segall is a garage rock singer/songwriter from San Francisco who began his career in music as a part-time musician for several different bands around the Orange County and San Francisco areas. He branched out on his own in 2008 with the release of his first song "Horn the Unicorn," which he recorded on a cassette tape. He would soon release his self-titled debut album, sparking a series of several more records that music critics have hailed for mapping the evolutionary progress of his craft as a songwriter and a performer. From his effortless 2011 album Goodbye Bread, to his 2012 psychedelic and space rock-inspired Twins, his solo endeavors have resonated with critics and fans more so than any of his bands, leading many to proclaim Segall one of the premier garage rock acts to emerge out of San Francisco in some time.

    »Bob Log III

    September 04, 2014 9:00 PM

Bob Log III is a one-man band from Tuscon, Arizona known for his slide guitar style and spaceman appearance during live shows. Whether he is sporting a sports coat and trousers of a full bodied cannonball suit, Bob Log III never performs without his pilot helmet. Wired to a telephone receiver, his helmet is designed to give his vocals a distorted affect. After solid runs with the bands Mondo Guano and Doo Rag, Bob Log III began his solo career by slowly acquiring instruments such as a bass drum, a kick drum, a homemade foot cymbal and a drum machine. He has mastered the art of multitasking, often calling audience members to sit on his knees while he plays slide guitar and multiple drums with his feet. His playful music has walked the line between controversy and humor, particularly his song "Boob Scotch," during which he asks someone to stir his scotch with a boob, often inviting audience members on stage to do just that before lifting his helmet to swallow the drink down. From his first album, School Bus from 1998, to his 2009 effort My Shit is Perfect, Bob Log III is unapologetic and has formed a solid fan base with his dry humor and genuine rock and roll sound.

Starting her career with The Staple Singers in the 1950s with the hit "Uncloudy Day," Mavis Staples has managed to maintain a fairly successful decades-long career that has spawned nearly countless memorable R&B, gospel and soul songs. After releasing music with her eponymous family band throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Mavis struck out on her own with her debut solo LP in 1969. In true form on her solo material, Mavis displays great power with her voice and demonstrates a mighty devotion to the gospel singers who have come before her, paving the road for her career's trajectory. Los Angeles-based collective WAR first formed in 1969, its members representing very different backgrounds, as they were all raised in various ghettos around the city. This fusion of backgrounds is reflected in the fusion of musical styles that came together in WAR's music--a blend of funk, rock n' roll, Latin and jazz. After being discovered by prominent record producer Jerry Goldstein, the band went on to produce multiple hits, still popular today, including "Low Rider" and "Why Can't We Be Friends." Though the group disbanded during most of the 1980s and 1990s, its music was heavily sampled by hip hop artists and used in national ad campaigns and films, which prompted the group to reunite. While some of the original members have passed away and others opted out of the reunion, WAR's founding members are included in the the reformation of the hit band, which began touring again in the 2008.
