Based on the classic folk tale by French author Charles Perrault, Cinderella follows the story of a young woman whose life of hardships is turned upside down. Though there have been thousands of adaptations for both the stage and big screen in several different languages, the foundation of the tale is often left untouched. A common version depicts Cinderella living a ragged life under the control of her stepmother and stepsisters, who are jealous of Cinderella's beauty and grace. When Cinderella's cruel family prevents her from attending the royal ball for Prince Charming, an attempt by the King and Queen to find a bride for their son, her fairy godmother comes to her aid and transforms her rags into a beautiful gown. Cinderella shows up to the ball and immediately catches the eye of Prince Charming, but she is forced to abruptly leave the party at midnight, when she returns to her true form, before the Prince can catch her name. A tale of hope and overcoming obstacles, Cinderella is an enduring narrative that has proven its lasting power through centuries of storytelling.

The RAM Foundation Presents Good Roots Yield Good Fruit Saturday, March 21, 2015 6:30 PM - 10:30 PM The Clarion Hotel 1615 Gervais Street Columbia, South Carolina Dr. Sharon R. Earle - Keynote Speaker Mr. Lionel Moise, WLTX TV - Master of Ceremony Proceeds Benefit The RAM Foundation's Reading, Arts, Mathematics Summer Enrichment Program   The primary objective of the RAM Foundations Reading, Arts, Mathematics Summer Enrichment Program is to: 1. Offer a safe haven for children during the summer months while guardians are employed or seeking employment. The rationale for this component is to give the students a place to find comfort, support, safety, and fun from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm in the afternoon. 2. Efforts assist the students with maintaining learned information from the regular academics term; thus combating the suggested 1/3rd of information lost during the summer months of inactivity (myschools.com). Information is taught to encourage growth during the summer resulting in the students' not having to work so hard upon the entry of the next academic year. The rationale for this component is to provide time designated for academic interventions as well as other activities aimed at educating the whole child. 3. In order to divert the many obstacles that inhibit academic and social growth, particular attention is paid to the physical, social, emotional, and psychological wellness of the students. The RAM program serves only healthy meals and snacks furnished by the Richland School District One Food and Student Nutrition Service Division. Activities are devised to combat obesity and to improve the conduct of students inside and outside of the school. Students will develop healthy eating habits, as we help incorporate First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative to fight against childhood obesity and lower the $150 billion spent treating obesity-related illnesses each year (letsmove.gov). 4. Exposure to educational, fun opportunities through field trips to museums locally and the surrounding states: North Carolina and Georgia. The rationale for this component is to give the students excursions that will introduce them to elements of society where their awareness is limited. These excursions will give the students a few moments away from their routine and broaden the students' horizons of general knowledge.
