Garrison Keillor is an American author, radio personality and humorist who is probably best known as host of the radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion. Born and raised in Minnesota, Keillor went to the University of Minnesota, where he began his broadcasting career at the university's student-run station, Radio K. In a ploy to create a program that would showcase an eclectic mix of rural music and humor, Keillor created the show A Prairie Home Companion in 1974 and though at first it struggled to find a listening base, the show has now grown into a mainstay of the American radio zeitgeist. With a strong knack for sharp wit, Keillor has evolved over the years to be an easily identifiable individual who's well-intentioned and affable personality have managed to resonate deeply with listeners of his show.

The 2015 Spring Conference will be TransformSCs third gathering of educators, students, parents, business leaders and elected officials.  Past events focused on creating and bringing together a network of districts and schools committed to transforming K-12 public education.  This years unique event will focus on the progress made by TransformSCs network of 37 schools during year one of the initiative.   Business leaders and policy makers will have the opportunity to hear directly from TransformSC schools on their results and progress, as well as the importance of business engagement in the effort and the challenges of transformation.  Educators have the opportunity to network with peers from across the state working on innovative classroom practices such as blended learning, project-based learning, competency-based progression, continuous assessment and developing a culture of innovation.  The agenda offers something for everyone interested in innovative approaches to public education. Tentative Schedule: 8:30 Welcome and opening 9:00 - 10:00 Opening plenary session Transformed Learning: Getting Results - Attendees will have an opportunity to hear from principals, teachers, parents, and students from four TransformSC schools. 10:00 - 11:00 First breakout session For the Business Leaders and Policymakers: The Challenges of Transformation - hear from Co-Chairs Pam Lackey and Mike Brenan on policy issues and challenges. For the Educators: Creating the Classrooms We Need for Personalized Learning (Diana Laufenberg) 11:00 - 12:00 Second breakout session Sessions on project-based learning, blended learning, competency-based progression, continuous assessment, and culture of innovation, featuring members of the TransformSC Action Teams discussing how to assess each practice. 12:00 - 1:00 Plenary lunch session Education 3.0 - Dr. Jeff Borden 1:00 - 2:00 Third breakout session Conversations with Schools at All Levels of Implementation: Representatives from TransformSC schools will discuss their accomplishments and the challenges associated with implementing project-based learning, blended learning, competency-based progression, continuous assessment, and a culture of innovation. 2:00 - 3:00 Fourth breakout session Round-table discussions and closing. Dr. Jeff Borden Chief Innovation Officer at Saint Leo University Dr. Jeff D Borden is the Chief Innovation Officer at Saint Leo University. For two decades, Jeff has focused on trying to transform higher education. For the past twelve years, Jeff has worked as a Vice President with Pearson Education, providing an academic vision and strategy that encompassed digital learning, neo-millennial methods, authentic assessment, and beyond. As the Center for eLearning Director, Jeff pursued rigorous research opportunities as he led the think tank of educational innovation. During that time Dr. Borden has worked with educators in every U.S. state, 34 countries, provided almost 100 keynote presentations to audiences of 100-10,000 almost weekly, and has spoken with stakeholders from teachers to principals to college administrators to government officials. Prior to his private sector work, Jeff taught full time at the University of Northern Colorado, Front Range Community College, and was the Coordinator of Public Speaking at Metropolitan State College of Denver. At the same time, in twenty years, Dr. Borden has never taken a semester off from teaching Communication, Rhetoric, and Education classes at various levels from technical schools to community colleges to state and private universities. In Dr. Bordens current role at Saint Leo, he is creating an innovation incubator, promoting transformational and effective practices, at scale, that are research driven. These strategies tie back to Jeffs platform of Education 3.0 the confluence of neuroscience, learning design, and education technology. Through this lens, Dr. Borden plans to use his extensive history speaking, teaching, and researching to provide a fertile bed of innovation. Charlie Wilson is a singer/songwriter from Tulsa, Oklahoma who has defined himself over his decades long career as one of the more recognizable figures of the American soul and R&B scenes.Starting out his career in 1967 as chief vocalist of the prominent soul group the Gap Band, Wilson went on to achieve considerable success with the band before opting to strike out on his own and launch a solo career, starting with his 1992 debut album, You Turn My Life Around. He has since distinguished himself with his powerful voice and poignant songwriting style.
