The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is bequeathed by the Schmeeckle Reserve. It is a historical natural land area and encompasses a mammoth 280 acres (1.1 square kilometers) land. The site is comprehensively inclusive of scenic hiking trails, a visitor center, multiple habitats, large wildlife, a natural land area and a manmade lake. It ably preserves and nurtures the regional ecological communities. It was established as the Reserve in 1956, before which it was a farm area. With these hiking and other facilities, the natural site is a magnificent recreational arena for all ages.
As the name suggests, the George W. Mead Wildlife Area is a wildlife area that boasts of forests, grasslands and much more. This natural treasure trove is ideal for those who love to explore different avenues and aspects of nature; one can indulge in activities like hiking, wildlife photography, hunting and so forth.
