The University of Notre Dame, a Catholic university founded in 1842, is perhaps best known for their mascot and sports teams, The Fighting Irish. One cannot visit the campus without going to see the Golden Dome of the main building, a symbol of the school since it was placed there in 1879. Currently, the university is ranked 16th in the nation, and continues to be one of the most prestigious academic and athletic institutions in the United States.
The Northern Indiana Center for History is housed in an elegant, 38-room Victorian Romanesque Queen Anne mansion, with original furnishings on all three floors. Other important sites include a 1930s cottage, a South Bend gallery, a gallery of Notre Dame history, exhibitions, and a children's museum.
First artificial whitewater course in North America and one of only six in the world. The Waterway opened in 1984 and routinely hosts national and word-class whitewater slalom races. The waterway brings Olympic winners and national champions to South Bend each season. The waterway and surrounding area are ideal settings for a variety of fun family activities. The Potawatomi Zoo is spread over a magnificent land cover of 23 acres (9.3 hectares). It forms a great highlight in the city of South Bend in the U.S. State of Indiana. It is home to approximately 400 animals. Rare Australian animals, large cats and primates are some of the distinctive features of the zoo. The rare and celebrated Edzoocation is the Education Department of the Zoo that offers an array of informative programs and classes for children as well as people from other ages. The zoo site welcomes more than 200,000 visitors each year.
The Morris Conservatory and Muessel-Ellison Tropical Gardens are replete with tropical plants and exotic flora as well as water features that make for a pleasant visit. Explore the conservatory for a view of cacti, rubber trees, bougainvillea, and many more species. This park is also an ideal venue for parties, weddings, meetings, and social events that can accommodate about 200 guests.

This library carries a large selection of books, magazines, maps, newspapers, DVDs, CDs, and videos. It also offers art prints, sculptures, pamphlets, and learning aid toys. Library hours are Monday thru Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Island Park is at the convergence of the St. Joseph and Elkhart Rivers and is named such as it is a small islet reserved as a community park. This lovely parkland features a bandstand, gazebo, benches, picnic spots, a playground, restrooms, a sand volleyball court, trails, a pavilion, charcoal grill and drinking fountain.
