    »Paula Nelson With Kyle Hutton

    September 23, 2014 8:00 PM

Following the trend of many long-lasting county music families, Paula Nelson is attempting to carve out a niche for herself in the modern music scene. Paula is the daughter of outlaw country pioneer, Willie, whose steady career has cemented him in the upper echelon of the genre. Her approach is a little less traditional than her father's, however, as Paula welcomes rock influences to mingle with the twang of her vocals, resulting in a sound most typically referred to as alternative country. She performs both solo and with her live band, the Paula Nelson Band, which she's also utilized in the studio on albums such as, Coming Home and Lucky 13.

    September 23, 2014 6:00 PM

Volumes is a hard rock band from Los Angeles that blends strong rhythms with a defined instrumental virtuosity to create a unique style of music that's well suited for the Southern California metal scene.Founded in 2009, the group gigged around the Los Angeles metro area for a few years after its inception before entering the studio to record its 2011 debut album, Via. Touring frequently and playing fairly well known festivals, like the Warped Tour, Volumes has managed to build a respectably sized fan base.

»Bootown Presents: Projectorphiles With Special Musical Guest Mikey and The Drags

    September 23, 2014 9:00 PM

Bootown presents: Projectorphiles http://www.bootown.org/ About Bootown: Founded in the summer of 2007 by University of Houston graduates Emily Hynds and Julie Gomez, BooTown was from the start a collaborative effort. Other founding members included Greg Hundemer, Philip Hays and Cathy Davis. In the three years since, Greg and Julie have moved on to other cities, but the Town has grown into a edgy, indie theatre institution, producing a series of monthly storytimes, Benshi shows, several plays and more under the oversight of Artistic Directors Emily Hynds and Lindsay Burleson. "...BooTown’s totally amazing, super original and completely hilarious show, Grown-Up Storytime." ~ Lydia O'Neil of Examiner.com "BooTown's a party!" ~Salvador Chevez "How has Houston survived without BooTown's monthly "Grown-up Storytime" comedy bash?" ~Joel Luks of CultureMap After the performance stick around for... Mikey and the Drags (Houston, TX) https://www.facebook.com/mikeyandthedragsband Mikey and the Drags are the type of band that you need to see late at night in a small dank club after you've put a few (dozen) down to really appreciate their greatness. Their garage-y surf-punk sound was obviously a void that needed to be filled in the Houston scene; last week they won an HPMA for Best Garage/Punk/Hardcore thanks in large part to their On the Loose EP. A few members might look familiar from other Houston bands (drummer Andrew Lee from Wild Moccasins; organist Austin Sepulvado from Buxton), but front man Miguel "Mikey" Ponce is who really draws people in. His energy is unmatched by anyone else fronting a band these days in Houston, which makes the Drags quite addictive to see live. With Beach Day and Sons of Hippies. - Houston Press

    »Royal Blood

    September 23, 2014 8:00 PM

Royal Blood is a rock duo from Brighton, England that's comprised of bassist/vocalist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher. Founded in 2012, the group makes a surprisingly dense style of unhinged rock 'n' roll, especially considering there are only two guys behind all the noise. Though the group has a sound that borrows as much from Arctic Monkeys as it does from The White Stripes, Royal Bloody has managed to add its own layer of originality to its tunes to create a distinctive style that's wholly authentic.
