Spinning Into Butter
Athenaeum Theatre Studio OneJanuary 30, 2015 8:00 PM
2936 North Southport Avenue
Chicago, IL 60614
With issues of racism and social justice dominating the national conversation, one play speaks volumes: "Spinning Into Butter". When an African-American student at a small Vermont liberal arts college is the subject of anonymous hate mail, the school's dean is forced to confront her own prejudices as the campus erupts in recrimination and condemnation. Heralded by "Time" magazine, Rebecca Gilman's gripping and bitingly funny drama now receives a brilliant new staging from Eclectic Theatre. Company member Andrew Pond directs at Athenaeum Theatre Studio One.

A Map Of Virtue
Rivendell Theatre EnsembleJanuary 30, 2015 7:30 PM
5779 North Ridge Avenue
Chicago, IL 60660
A tantalizing mystery lies at its center of "A Map of Virtue", hailed as "one of the most terrifying plays of the past decade" by "The New York Times". Part interview, part comedy, part middle-of-the-night horror story, "A Map of Virtue" is about a shared obsession that leaves a group of friends stranded in the woods. A bird statue is the guide through this symmetrical tale about the limits of our virtues and what we leave behind. The hauntingly romantic play premiered at New York's 13P in 2012, where it was named a "New York Times" Critic's Pick and went on to win an Obie Award.

This world-premiere production at Theater Wit wrestles with questions of faith, sacrifice and tolerance.

Trigger Happy
Annoyance Theatre & BarJanuary 30, 2015 8:00 PM
4830 North Broadway
Chicago, IL 60640
The Annoyance Theatre's "Trigger Happy" is a newly styled long-form improv show that consists of a series of unrelated scenes inspired by a single suggestion from the audience. How does that differ from any other improv? In this production staged at the Chicago improv haven, the cast shares an invisible language that will trigger certain events, as if by magic. The goal is to create a show that, although completely improvised and funny, still provides the look and feel of a staged production. In artistic director Mick Napier's own words: "In one moment, everyone in the cast may exclaim something at the same time for what appears to be no reason, or most of the players might suddenly exit simultaneously, leaving only two people on stage to do a series of five different five-second scenes."

Hitch Cocktails
Annoyance Theatre & BarJanuary 30, 2015 10:00 PM
4830 North Broadway
Chicago, IL 60640
Crime and drinking don't mix -- unless it's at the totally inventive "Hitch Cocktails". Each show, the actors will take suggestions from the audience to craft a thriller in the style of the Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. It's a night chock-full of murder, car chases, beautiful women and exciting music. And, since this is high-class crime, there's a real wet bar onstage, of which the actors are forced to partake throughout the performance -- sure to make any chase across Mount Rushmore all the more precarious. With a live jazz band providing the soundtrack and parlor games for the audience, "Hitch Cocktails" will have everyone in on the action.
