The Trojan War is etched into history and implanted onto public conscious thanks to the massive scale of the battle and the epic poem, "The Iliad", written about the conflict. But what if the Trojan War had been avoided, and in its place there was a passionate plea made by a warrior for a story of peace? In "Tiger at the Gates", the war is on the horizon, but Trojan military leader Hector attempts to avoid the battle with the Greeks. The men around him, however, captivated by the beauty of power of glorious Helen, have other plans in mind.

Sounding every bit like a modern-day headline come to life, Larry Todd Johnson's musical "Mercy: Variations" tells of a dark secret that's suddenly brought into the light. On the eve of his retirement, TV reporter Ray admits on-air to killing someone 30 years before. As he relives conflicting versions of the experience in nightmares and hallucinations, Ray's best friend, his former lover, and the DA pursuing his case question his sanity and the very nature of truth. Featuring music by Mike O'Mara, "Mercy: Variations" is the first installment of Kokandy Production's 2015 New Musical Staged Reading Series, hosted by Chicago's Theater Wit. The program provides budding musical theater writers with the chance to have their developing work presented by a company of professional actors. No sets, no costumes, just the play itself. You then get the chance to give your invaluable feedback.

As humanity is coming to an end, four characters play out their own games of manipulation just to pass the time in Samuel Beckett's one-act classic, "Endgame". The play follows Hamm, a blind man who is unable to stand, and his servant, Clov, who is unable to sit. Hamm's parents have no legs and live in trash cans nearby. Swerving from the magnificent to the minuscule and from the profound to the profoundly ridiculous, The Hypocrites' production of "Endgame" mixes beauty, vitality and wry humor in a devastating distillation of the human condition on the Main Stage of The Den Theatre.
