Roxy Roca is a blues band from Austin, Texas that owns a funky, soul-infused sound. The eight, sometimes nine-piece outfit quickly earned a following with its brass-powered, high-energy live shows, particularly after its first showcase at Austin's South by Southwest in 2012.

»The Soul Rebels w/ Special Guest Prodigy (of Mobb Deep) & Fat Tony

    September 19, 2014 10:00 PM

Fat Tony was so inspired by the Houston school district's 1990 public service announcement, RABDARGAB (acronym for Read A Book, Do A Report, Get A Buck), that he named his debut album the same thing. Like the actual campaign, he promised that if any fan listened to his record and sent in a review via email, he would send them $1 in the mail. Fat Tony was smart enough not to dish out too much dough, however, as he started out on the other side of the curtain by working as a booker for underground rappers. Since hitting the stage, Fat Tony has won several local awards and accolades throughout Texas.

    September 19, 2014 6:30 PM

Formed by Texas blues legends TD Bell and Erbie Bowser, The Blues Specialists first began performing its traditional Texas jump blues over 20 years ago. Now that both of its founders have since passed on, the band remains just as strong as ever as a five-piece that boasts over 200 years of experience playing the blues between them. With T-Bone Walker as the band's primary influence, the group has become a favorite at the Continental Club in Austin, where The Blues Specialists maintain a residency.

    »Tameca Jones

    September 19, 2014 11:30 PM

Songstress Tameca Jones is one of the few musicians to be born and raised in Texas' famous and musically rich city of Austin. Referred to by locals as the "Tina Turner of jazz" due to her trademark style, Jones sings easy listening lounge as well as upbeat soulful pop with equal success. Though only present on the music circuit for the past three years and without a label or an album, Jones has opened for the likes of Smokey Robinson and David Sanborn. Jones usually performs with her quartet backing band, which is just as adept at switching genres as Jones herself.

    »Jerry Jeff Walker

    September 19, 2014 8:00 PM

Country music singer/songwriter Ronald Clyde Crosby operates under the stage name Jerry Jeff Walker. He was born in Oneonta, New York where he became a member of the band The Tones, though his music career with the band was cut short when a record deal excluded him and another member from recording sessions. After a succession of failed band attempts, Walker adopted his nickname and focused on becoming a solo artist. His 1968 hit single "Mr. Bojangles," featured on an album of the same name, would go on to become his most well-known and covered song. Walker relocated to Austin, where he associated with artists such as Willie Nelson, Guy Clark and Waylon Jennings, and developed a signature brand of music that he calls "cowjazz." He opened his own record label, Tried & True Music in 1986, after being disillusioned by the mainstream music business. His switch from major labels to his own independent label coincided with an increasingly autobiographical theme in his music that is particularly evident on his 1987 album, Gypsy Songman. Walker's increasingly honest music seems to have earned him a strong connection in Austin, where his annual birthday celebration has become a highly sought after event that attracts some of the biggest names in country music.

    »Porter Robinson

    September 19, 2014 8:00 PM

Porter Robinson made his mark on the electro house circuit when he was just 18 years-old. Having not previously been privy to the electronic or club scenes, Robinson's single, "Say My Name," spread across the dance world, quickly making him a name to watch. His sound is slightly reminiscent of French house duos such as Daft Punk and Justice, and is full of glitchy dynamics, dubstep influences and fat synthesizers that really utilize the full spectrum of tones, from rumbling lows to squealing highs. All of it is set, of course, to the pulsing four-on-the-floor beats of house music.
