Gymnase Mado Bonnet is a grandiose gymnasium that is furnished with state-of-the-art sporting facilities. The gymnasium is well-equipped to hone the abilities of basketball, handball, volleyball and badminton players. The Gymnase Mado Bonnet also serves as a home arena for L'Union Lyon Basket Féminin. The University of Lyon or Université de Lyon was established in 2007 and consists of a number of sub sections dedicated to independent studies. Of which the three main universities include Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 for health science studies, social sciences at the Lumière University Lyon 2 and Jean Moulin University Lyon 3 for humanities and law. The University is the center for education in Lyon and has a number of resident as well as foreign students. Located a few miles away from central Vaulx-en-Velin, Centre Culturel Communal Charlie Chaplin serves as a cultural center and an event space for a plethora of live acts that take place in the region. The center is home to concerts, musicals, puppet shows, dramas and several other local events. Constructed in 1926, by the famous architect Tony Garnier, Gerland stadium has undergone many changes, the last being the one prior to the 1998 FIFA World Cup. With a seating capacity of more than 40,000 spectators, this stadium is a sight to behold during the FIFA World Cup matches. An old train station that was used only for freight for many decades, the Gare de Jean Macé has been undergoing a makeover and just recently reopened its doors to the public. The departures and arrivals area at the Perrache and Part-Dieu stations will remain unchanged by this new station, but many regional trains will now make this new stop which will greatly help to relieve the two main stations. The Gare de Jean Macé is located on the left side of the Rhône river in the southern part of the city. From there, it's only a few metro or tramway stops to Saxe Gambetta, Gerland or Grange Blanche.
Halle De La Gare TGV (Hall of the Railway Station TGV) is the main central hall of the state-of-the-art Lyon-Saint Exupery TGV station that was based on the designs by Santiago Calatrava to serve the TGV line between Paris and Marseille. The design of this steel and concrete superstructure was derived from the shape of one of the designer's sculpture and resembles a bird at the point of flight, giving it a balanced shape. Apart from serving as a high-speed station for the Lyon's Satolas Airport, Halle De La Gare TGV is also used for hosting various concerts and music festival during summer. Call for more information.

La Plateforme is a unique event space (inside a fuel tanker!) that can hold around 700 people in four rooms along its huge length.This space(including two stages) is used to host a line-up of great concerts by artists from around the world. Times and ticket prices vary. Professional events, cocktail parties, festivals and business conferences may also be held on the boat. Located on the Villeurbanne campus, the Espace Double Mixte is a large (2000 square meters/21,528 square feet) exposition space rented for all varieties of events. The programming is very eclectic, including student forums, secondhand and farmer's markets, receptions for weddings and concerts, and indoor sports competitions or domestic animal shows. Student resources such as a cafeteria and photocopiers are also inside.
