    »Fiddler On The Roof

    September 30, 2014 8:00 PM

The internationally-renowned, nine-time Tony Award-winning musical Fiddler on the Roof illustrates the story of a Jewish family living in 1905 Tsarist Russia. Centered around a poor Orthodox Jewish fiddler named Tevye, his wife Golde and their five daughters, the story explores the question of marrying for love or financial security and how to preserve tradition in a changing world. The production's smart and gripping material is sewn through with iconic songs, including "If I were a Rich Man," and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," renditions of which have made their way into film, popular culture and even contemporary music.

    »The Cave Singers

    September 30, 2014 8:00 PM

The Cave Singers is a Seattle-based indie-folk project started by former Murder City Devils and Pretty Girls Make Graves' bassist, Derek Fudesco. Unlike the art punk nature of those groups, the Cave Singers draws on classic country, folk and Americana influences, as well as from current indie rock trends. The songs are often sparse, acoustically-driven and full of harmonies, punctuated by lead singer Pete Quirk's raspy vocals. Since 2007, the band has quietly been releasing understated but effective albums for indie giant, Matador Records.

With innovative style, Stephen Sondheim unites nine real-life assassins across history to tell stories of the motivations, dreams and justifications behind their actions. Disturbing, daring and touching, this highly modern use of the musical form has received mixed reception from audiences all over the world. Its bold imagining of the people behind such violence brought it to Broadway in 2004, earning it five Tonys, 14 years after its original Off-Broadway run in 1990. Based on an idea by Charles Gilbert Jr., Sondheim invited collaborator John Weidman to write the book for the revue-style show, which addresses the uncharacteristic material in the style of a violent carnival game. It is an investigation of the American Dream, how we decide what gives our lives meaning, and what it means to be an outsider.
