James Mcmurtry
McGonigel's Mucky DuckFebruary 27, 2015 7:00 PM
2425 Norfolk Street
Houston, TX 77098
James McMurtry is an Austin, Texas-based musician who is known for his purist approach to some decidedly American genres such as alt-country and Americana. Whether performing alone with his acoustic guitar or backed by his band, The Heartless Bastards, McMurtry writes in the classic singer/songwriter mold, favoring vivid imagery and storytelling over personal confessionals or cryptic, metaphorical lyrics. Though there's nothing particularly special about his voice and guitar playing, it's the simplistic but intense conviction of the overall package that has won McMurtry comparisons to legends such as John Prine and Jackson Browne. He's also been known to occasionally use his songwriting as a means of political discourse, penning songs in protest against Wal-Mart and the Iraq war.

Broadway For All
Music Box TheaterFebruary 27, 2015 7:30 PM
2623 Colquitt
Houston, TX 77098
Usually you have to wait for the Tony Awards in June for a moving and musical tribute to Broadway's best. But now a glittering valentine to live musical theater has arrived early: "Broadway for All", a hilarious cabaret that spans decades of theatrical history from "South Pacific" to "Into the Woods" to "Wicked". For the third year in a row, the talented singers and musicians of Music Box Theater bring the bright lights and brilliant sounds of 42nd and Broadway to Colquitt and Kirby. Peppered with the company's own zany brand of humor -- and more than a few winks and nudges -- "Broadway for All" abundantly delivers on its title promise: an all-new, all-singing, all-wonderful production for all ages.
