    »Modest Mouse

    September 23, 2014 8:00 PM

Modest Mouse is an American alternative rock band formed in Seattle suburb of Issaquah, Washington. The band's sound has managed to change with each consecutive album release and although the group first started as a timid indie rock group, it has morphed into a swarthy alternative rock troupe with confidence to boot.

    »Hank 3

    September 28, 2014 7:00 PM

Grandson of country music legend Hank Williams and son of Hank Williams Jr., Shelton Hank Williams III is a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter with country music in his blood. Known as Hank III, he creates a sound that blends country music with punk and metal for a tougher, heavier sound than his father or grandfather ever created. Having spent his formative years playing drums in punk rock bands, Hank III developed a rebellious attitude toward the expected sound and behavior of country music, and it was this malcontent disposition that eventually fueled his 1999 critically acclaimed debut solo album, Risin' Outlaw. He has since expanded his sound further to include psychobilly and punkabilly, earning sub-genre descriptions such as hard-twang, slacker swing and honky punk.

With a sound that incorporates elements of bosa nova, trip-hop, ambient music and a Japanese brand of pop known as Shibuya-kei, Hatori and Honda released their debut album Viva! La Woman, in 1996 as a duo before adding three more members. As a five-piece outfit, Cibo Matto released its sophomore full-length effort Stereo* Type A, in 1999. The band broke up in 2001 and reunited a decade later in 2011 to record and release its third studio album in 2013.

    »The Beach Boys

    October 03, 2014 9:00 PM

The Beach Boys are primarily known for their impressive vocal harmonies and a knack for writing catchy, pop friendly songs. The band is also widely regarded to be one of the most important bands to emerge from the 60s and it has gone down as one of the most influential bands in history. While the members have since had their differences and tour without Brian Wilson, the front man that most credit as the crucial and most talented member of the Beach Boys, they do still perform songs that rouse nostalgia in the audience.

»Desert Stars Festival At Pappy & Harriet's Weekend Pass, Dandy Warhols

    October 03, 2014 4:00 PM

Combining the disparate worlds of indie power pop and shoegaze, Ringo Deathstarr is another example of the recent trend of melding summery songs with walls of distorted noise. Formed in Austin, Texas around 2005, the three-piece is undoubtedly inspired by the like-minded catalog of the popular 1980s underground group, The Jesus & Mary Chain. That band's proclivity for using hazy guitar textures, feedback and effects pedals to disguise perfect little pop songs buried underneath is carried on in Ringo Deathstarr's music. For those who like their pop a little skewered and unorthodox, the group's songs will most likely be warmly welcomed.
