This park contains some beautiful wilderness with dozens of hiking trails that reach over 3,000 feet in elevation. At this height, it is needless to say that the park offers unsurpassed views of the San Francisco Bay Area and as far away as Yosemite. The mountain and surrounding areas were originally home to over 20 different tribes of Native Americans, including the Ohlone and Bay Miwok. In fact, in these tribes creation myth, the mountain was the point of creation. Today, the park's Summit Museum and Visitor Center features a variety of exhibits and literature on the park and local history.

»Tao House

Eugene O'Neil wrote his most tortured plays, The Iceman Cometh and A Long Day's Journey into Night, while living in this house that, fittingly, has a view of Mount Diablo. Tao House itself is an odd amalgam of a mission-style house with an Asian-style black-glazed tile roof. O'Neil built the house with his Nobel Prize money and in honor of Taoism, the religion he practiced. Exhibits within trace the story of his life.
