Blue October
House of BluesNovember 28, 2014 8:00 PM
2200 North Lamar Street
Dallas, TX 75202
Initially formed by brothers Justin and Jeremy Furstenfeld in 1995, Blue October is a four-piece alternative rock band from Houston, TX. The Furstenfeld's parents, who were the band's managers at the time, negotiated with connections at their local news station and got the channel to feature Blue October on multiple early morning broadcasts. These performances stirred anticipation for the group's debut album, 1998's The Answers, and grabbed the attention of Universal Records, whom the band signed with in 1999. While Blue October had a fairly tumultuous relationship with the label, which subsequently dropped the band before resigning them, it has managed to maintain a solid fan base with its straightforward alternative rock sound full of emotional lyrics. Universal went on to release several of the band's follow-up albums, including the commercially successful Foiled, in 2006.

Alexz Johnson is a Canadian singer/songwriter and actress who got her start in acting at the age of 11, despite being focused on a singing career. After signing with an agency and landing auditions for commercials and a couple of pilot shows, she landed the starring role on Disney's television series So Weird, which required the lead actress to sing throughout its final season. After the show's initial run from 1999 to 2001, Johnson continued to practice songwriting while landing other acting roles, including a leading role on the Canadian television show Instant Star. She penned several songs for the show's soundtrack and finally released her debut solo album Voodoo, in 2010, shedding much of her bubblegum pop appeal in exchange for an alternative folk rock sound.
