Garrison Keillor is an American author, radio personality and humorist who is probably best known as host of the radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion. Born and raised in Minnesota, Keillor went to the University of Minnesota, where he began his broadcasting career at the university's student-run station, Radio K. »Zz Top

April 08, 2015 7:15 PM

The Texas-based blues rock outfit ZZ Top rose to prominence in the early 1970s with its dirty brand of southern rock and wailing guitar solos. After releasing its 1971 debut album, fittingly titled ZZ Top's First Album, the band established its raw, earthy sound and attitude with fuzzy guitars and rollicking rhythms. Each of the band's subsequent releases throughout the decade earned critical acclaim and a fair amount of radio play, proving that the three-piece band's Texas drawls and dirty jokes resonated with fans outside of the Lone Star State. ZZ Top continues to release its bluesy southern rock music and remains one of the most easily identifiable acts around with two of its three members sporting bushy, chest-length beards.

A wildly innovative musical theater experience, STOMP is a non-narrative immersion into percussion and dance. Using non-traditional objects to create intricate, pounding and overlapping rhythmic compositions, the show originated in Britain as a two-man dance troupe in the late 1980s. Since its West End debut in 1991, the show has developed into an international sensation with various satellite productions in cities around the world. Transcending generation, age and culture, STOMP brings a unique blend of urban style and tribal dance to the masses.

Pile is a stoner rock band from Boston that crafts a sleepy, post-grunge sound. With moments of off-kilter energy sewn throughout its songs, the group first captured its distinctive style on the 2009 album Jerk Routine. Mastering the balance between the past and present of alternative rock, punk and post punk, post-hardcore and indie, Pile captured a massive following that has grown with each of its subsequent LPs, such as 2012's Drippings.

»Those Darlins

April 25, 2015 10:00 PM

Those Darlins is a Murfreesboro, Tennessee-based outfit that has garnered a good deal of attention since first performing live shows in 2008. These notorious performances included scandalously short matching country-western costumes, rowdy, occasionally alcohol fueled, stage antics and appearances by people dressed as giant chickens. Riotous performances aside, the trio creates catchy, twang-heavy garage-rock with charmingly sarcastic lyrics. After opening for many huge bands and selling out headliner shows, Those Darlins is rapidly gaining a reputation and a solid fan base.

»Doobie Brothers

May 07, 2015 7:15 PM

With a well noted sound that's well rooted in 1970s rock, soul and funk, The Doobie Brothers have managed to be remembered as one of the premier acts of its generation. Active from 1970 to 1982 before reuniting in 1987, the band released its self-titled debut album in 1971 and has since released over a dozen studio albums. Though The Doobie Brothers has experienced a number of line-up changes over the years, the group still tours and has maintained a reputation for putting on an impressive live show despite the departure of vocalist Michael McDonald.
