»Mike and The Mechanics

March 03, 2015 7:00 PM

Formed by Mike Rutherford, one of the original founders of Genesis, Mike and the Mechanics was initially meant to be a band that released material and toured in between the albums of Genesis, Rutherford's primary band. Though the group's lineup was fairly inconsistent, it enjoyed a fair amount of success, most notably for the single "Silent Running," from the 1986 film Choke Canyon. The UK band primarily released new wave-styled adult contemporary pop, progressing its sound slightly as it continued to create music through the 1990s and up until 2007, when Rutherford decided to disband his project. However, just two years later, when Genesis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Rutherford announced that he had reformed Mike and the Mechanics, this time with R&B singer Andrew Roachford and actor Tim Howar. The trio released a new album in early 2011 and embarked on a subsequent tour.

Scotland-born and New York-based entertainer Craig Ferguson has found success as an actor, musician, comedian and late-night host. After various gigs as a drummer in rock and punk bands, he began appearing in British sitcoms and making the rounds on the stand-up circuit. Ferguson moved to Los Angeles in 1994 and found himself working with American icons Bettie White and Marie Osmond before earning his breakthrough role as Drew Carey's boss on The Drew Carey Show. His seven-year run with the show and over-the-top English accent opened several other television opportunities for him, and he eventually became Craig Kilborn's successor on CBS's The Late Late Show. Ferguson has host of the popular talk-show since 2004 and occasionally acts in supporting roles on major films.

»Rsc Live: Love's Labour's Lost

March 03, 2015 2:00 PM

Stratford-upon-Avon -- Shakespeare's birthplace and the home of the world-famous Royal Shakespeare Company -- comes to Manhattan with this live HD screening of "Love's Labour's Lost" at Symphony Space. This acclaimed new production sets Shakespeare's mischievous early comedy in a world that'll be instantly familiar to fans of "Downton Abbey" -- in an aristocratic London country estate circa 1914. One of Shakespeare's most flamboyantly intellectual comedies, "Love's Labour's Lost" follows the King of Navarre and his three feckless friends, who take an oath to immerse themselves in their studies, swearing off contact with women for three years. As if on queue, the Princess of France arrives with her three gorgeous ladies-in-waiting and the young men must struggle to keep their oath. Will they succeed or will the game of love prove too enticing? Only at the play's end is the merriment curtailed as the lovers agree to submit to a period apart, unaware that the world around them is about to be utterly transformed by "the war to end all wars."
