    »Wwe: Smackdown

    September 02, 2014 6:45 PM

During the early 20th century wresting was looked at as a serious sport with classical connections to Olympic competitions. This all changed, though, with the rise of World Wrestling Entertainment during the 80s. Rising to prominence under the guidance of CEO Vince McMahon, WWE presented wrestling as less of a sport and more of a staged entertainment event with colorful characters and elaborately planned title matches. Battles between WWE wrestlers are typically held in stadiums, packed with fervent fans, and are televised to audiences around the country. Theatrics and even pyrotechnics are employed to an ostentatious degree but all the lively visuals combine to make for some extremely engaging, exaggerated wrestling performances that fans continue to thrive on.

    »How To Dress Well

    September 02, 2014 9:00 PM

Dreamy and full of delicate falsettos, the music of Tom Krell - who performs under the How to Dress Well moniker - is the lo-fi underground version of R&B slow jams. Based out of Cologne, Germany, when Krell debuted his How to Dress Well project he was a translator of modern philosophy by day, but a musician and DJ by night. By looping slowed down samples of pop musicians like Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey and overlaying them with his own haunting vocals, Krell might not produce the type of music that will fill a dance floor, but How to Dress Well has been receiving positive attention nonetheless, finding a niche amongst fans of the quieter side of bedroom pop.

    »Afghan Whigs

    September 03, 2014 8:00 PM

Evolving from a rock outfit called The Black Republicans, Afghan Whigs is an alternative rock band that formed in Cincinnati in 1986. With an aggressive style of guitar-driven rock, the group quickly started to garner attention from notable music critics with its 1988 debut album Big Top Halloween, and signed with the seminal Seattle-based grunge label Sub Pop. As Afghan Whigs continued to tour and release studio material including 1990's Up in It and 1996's Black Love, with its signature dark humor themes, the group's members started to fall out with one another and eventually broke up in 2001. In 2011, the group announced it would play a number of reunion shows during the summer of 2012 at All Tomorrow's Parties' I'll Be Your Mirror event in London in addition to a number of festivals including Barcelona's Primavera Sound, Chicago's Lollapalooza and Pukkelpop in Hasselt, Belgium.

    »Head For The Hills

    September 04, 2014 9:00 PM

Head For The Hills, or as fans refer to them H4TH, have already opened for some of the biggest names in the bluegrass and acoustic communities like Bela Fleck, T-Bone Burnett and Earl Scruggs. The members met one another in Fort Collins, Colorado and recorded their debut LP Robber's Roost in 2007 with the help of Sally Van Meter who had also worked with the likes of Bob Dylan and Jerry Garcia. The young members of Head For The Hills have deep respect for the founders of bluegrass and although they know all the classic traditional standards, the group have also helped to progress the genre by performing new grass originals that consistently manage to win over festival crowds across the country.
