This Gwinnett County municipal course is as beautiful as most private clubs. Spend a morning or afternoon enjoying the 18-hole layout of Bermuda grass fairways with bentgrass greens. The links feature a halfway house, clubhouse, restaurant, driving range and putting green. Club and cart rentals are available, as well as full equipment and apparel at the pro shop. Other "clubby" extras include tennis courts and a pool.
This park was the site of a train depot in the 1840s, and an old caboose still sits on the property for you to explore. There is a mile-long trail that winds through 17 wooded acres, up to a flowing creek and back to the entrance. The park also features tennis and volleyball courts, as well as a playground and a picnic site. Leashed pets are welcome. Take Interstate 85 north to Pleasant Hill Road, turn left (west) and continue for about a couple miles to get here.
Despite its small size, this park in the heart of the city, sees a fair amount of people throughout the day. The park gets busy right from the morning thanks to its popular jogging track. Kids can enjoy in their own little play area. For those into sports, the park offers four well-maintained tennis courts. A large playground occupies much of the park. Located in Johns Creek, Atlanta Athletic Club is a well known club with multi-functional facility spread over expansive locale of Johns Creek. The club covers an extensive 18 hole golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, fitness center, a standard Olympic sized swimming pool and facilities for dining. Located approximately 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Atlanta in southern Forsyth County, this Arthur Hills-designed course offers a challenge to any golfer. The elevated tees on some holes provide outstanding views, with water on six holes and trees waiting for wayward balls. The 18th is the signature hole, a par-5 measuring 531 yards with a tight peninsula green. A complete driving range and a practice facility are on site, including several putting and chipping greens.
This Fred Couples signature golf course is very popular with visiting business executives, and one look at the layout reveals why. Thirty minutes from downtown, this par-72 championship course flows through 6825 yards (6240 meters) of bucolic North Georgia foothills, and is open to the public year-round. Facilities include a full service pro shop, ten-acre (four-hectare) practice range, putting green, practice bunker, chipping green, locker rooms and a full bar. Conference and banquet facilities are also on-site to accommodate up to 300 guests, and the Mill House Restaurant serves lunch and dinner daily.

Just 15 minutes north of Buckhead, this is one of Atlanta's most attractive and accessible public courses. Players choose between the fast-playing nine-hole par-3 course and the par-70, 18-hole championship course. Beautifully landscaped with bentgrass greens and Bermuda fairways, this 951-yard (869.5-meter) challenge presents a variety of hazards. Facilities include a driving range, practice facility, clubhouse and a pro shop that offers individual and group lessons.
This large open space near the Fireside Pavilion at the Stone Mountain Park is perfect for hosting outdoor group activities and fun events. Standing close to Lake Windward, this expansive park is one of the city's finest recreational facilities. Four baseball fields, two soccer fields and tennis courts sit at the heart of the park. Besides sports, visitors to the park can enjoy the beautifully landscaped setting complete with a pond as well as a children's play area. Just east of Atlanta, this 3200-acre (1300-hectare) park centers on the world's largest exposed granite mountain. Sky lift gondolas whisk visitors 825 feet (251 meters) to the top, where commanding views of the Georgia countryside await them. The north face's 90x100-foot (27x30-meter) bas-relief memorial to Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson is the world's largest. An antebellum plantation, an antique auto museum and a petting zoo are all located within the park, as are camping, dining and lodging accommodations. During the summer, there are evening laser light shows on the mountain.
Atlanta's natural pride and joy is the sprawling beauty of Stone Mountain Park, where all are welcome to partake of a round at its beautiful 36-hole course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, much of the course hugs the shores of the park's lake. There's a pro shop on the premises, with lessons and rental clubs available. The course also features practice areas, a driving range and two putting greens. Weekend and holiday rounds require about a week's advance reservation.
