Offering a post-grunge sound, the band's self-titled debut album was released in 1997 and entered the top 40 of the US Albums chart. Days of the New's original lineup dissolved in 1998, though Meeks assembled a new backing band just a year later in time to release the 1999 album Days of the New II. »Rollfast Ramblers * Sugarball Express * Broken Spokes

    August 01, 2014 10:00 PM

Rollfast Ramblers (Austin, TX) http://www.rollfastramblers.com/ Rollfast Ramblers consists of members from all corners of the country, and started when Ben Sparks met Wes Davis while they were pedicabbing. They found kindred spirits in eachother and eventually started a band. Both cyclists and avid fans of the roots of American music, they wanted a group that reflected the pioneering spirit of that music, and a name that hinted at the freedom cycling gives a body. In many ways, the way of life that puts a person on a bicycle is similar to the iconic, free-roaming cowboys of yesteryear, and it seems only fitting to unite cycling and the energetic swing of the first half of the 20th century. Seán Bolivar responded to ads the group put up when they were searching for other like-minded musicians. Both were no-brainers, the first time they showed up to rehearse with the group, as they brought exactly what was needed to the table without even much discussion. Heather Rae was a friend of Ben's who showed up one day to fill in on stage for a missing lead player and told the group at the end of the night she would play with them as long as they'd have her, and has been performing with the group ever since. Rollfast Ramblers dial it back to a time when people came out to dance to music. Describing their music as Western Swing isn't descriptive enough for the Ramblers. They get back to the roots of Western Swing, pre-1940's. The whole idea is to take the same approach those as those country folks in the early 20th century trying to play Jazz, Blues, Conjunto, Swing mixed with Appalachian Folk and Pioneer Fiddle Tunes. Our goal is to toss a similar energy with the same influences into a modern blender. Now, let's see what comes out. But, Rollfast Ramblers is not music that you have to study to enjoy. Let's all hum a tune, clap, tap our feet and most of all let's all dance.
