Return with us now to those thriling days of yesteryear when it was discovered that East Texaswas sitting on a sea of oil.
The museum contains displays and personal memorabilia of R.G. LeTourneau, one of the most prolific inventors of oil and earth-moving equipment.
Contains a private collection of antique and classic automobiles. Also on exhibit are collections of toy cars, tools, mechanical equipment and a wall of license plates.
The Longview Museum of Fine Arts originated in 1958 and exhibits 6 shows per year, including works from artists from Texas and the Southwest, as well as international artists. The museum houses a collection of over 300 pieces featuring paintings, sculptures, photographs, woodblock, pottery and etchings.
The Gregg County Historical Museum is housed in the Historic Everett Building. Many exhibits illustrate the development of Gregg County and colorful history of the area, with numerous artifacts and photographs for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Open Tues.-Sat.
The Depot Museum Complex houses 11 historic structures from Rusk County's past, including an 1843 log cabin, a syrup mill, an outhouse, a dog trot home, a sawmill, and an oil derrick. Clustered on four acres, the oldest log cabin and only outhouse with historical marker in the state. The Children's Discovery Center offers 200 activities for children ages five to ten.
