This active sailing club welcomes advanced sailors and novices alike to the beautiful shores of Lake Allatoona just northwest of Atlanta, GA. SWSC offers sailing excursions, club sponsored races, rafting dinners, parties, cookouts, and many other social events. The club is based at Allatoona's Habor Town Marina, which features docks, a boat ramp, and the full complement of marine services. Dinner meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month.
This national park is located on the site of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, the last significant victory for the South during their defense of Atlanta in 1864. Centered around the namesake mountain, which rises to 1808 feet (551 meters), the park features over 16 miles (26 kilometers) of mapped trails as well as a museum commemorating the historic battle. Picnic sites, battlefield markers and monuments are peppered throughout the forested mountainside, which features great views of Atlanta in clear weather. Maps detailing the trails and battle history are available from the visitors center.
One of the area's best public courses, this wonderful creation was designed by three different architects and is very well maintained. The 18 hole, par 71 course was built on rolling terrain and features narrow, tree-lined fairways, fast and well bunkered greens, and water hazards coming into play on at least ten holes.
Located in the heart of the city, this beautifully landscaped expanse is one of the city's favorite recreational spots. Spanning 25 acres (10.11 hectares), Laurel Park offers something for everyone. Kids will love their own little play area replete with a duck pond. For those into sports, the park offers 13 well-maintained tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, a basketball court as well as shuffleboard facilities. The South's largest water park is located about 20 minutes from downtown in suburban Cobb County, and is open weekends during May, then daily from June through August. In addition to water slides, wading pools, and all types of aquatic rides, the park offers Friday night "Dive-In Movies," where guests watch first-run movies from inner tubes in the wave pool. Admission is calculated by height. This charge includes free admission to Six Flags' American Adventures park next door.
