»Young The Giant

March 04, 2015 8:30 PM

Previously known as The Jakes, Young the Giant is a five-piece alternative rock band from Irvine, CA. The band started as a more melodic response to its local music scene, which drummer Francois Comtois described as consisting of, “a lot of hardcore bands.” The band's urge to try something different paid off, as its music takes on a blend of relaxing and explosive beats and gorgeous guitar riffs, tied together with lead singer Sameer Gadhia’s definitive, raspy voice. The band's breakthrough single, “My Body,” peaked at number five on the Billboard Alternative Songs Chart. With only one self-titled studio album, Young the Giant has been pegged by music legend Morrissey as one of his favorite new bands.

March 04, 2015 8:30 PM

The Reverend Horton Heat is a Texas-based trio and the moniker of its front man and singer/songwriter Jim Heath. Formed in 1985, The Reverend Horton Heat offers an aggressive but endearing psychobilly sound that includes elements of country, punk and rockabilly. While the group has found a fair amount of success on the mainstream market, with songs in multiple commercials, television shows and video games, The Reverent Horton Heat gets most of its support from the close-knit cult following that has been around since the beginning, from the band's 1990 debut album Smoke 'em If You Got'em, to its most renowned effort, 2002's Lucky 7.

»Horse Feathers

March 07, 2015 9:00 PM

Essentially the project of Portland via Idaho musician Justin Ringle, Horse Feathers was conceived when Ringle relocated to Portland with the hopes of finding like-minded musicians, after having no luck in his native state. This move proved fruitful, as Ringle immediately met the Brodericks, a brother and sister who shared musical interests with Ringle. Horse Feathers did not retain this familial duo after the release of its first album and while the band has had a constantly rotating cast of players, the band's sound - lush chamber-folk - has remained consistent.
