    »Mass Appeal

    October 30, 2014 7:30 PM

Made into a movie starring Jack Lemmon, the award-winning comedy-drama "Mass Appeal" tracks the tension between Father Tim Farley, a popular Catholic pastor at an affluent, suburban church and the brash young deacon who challenges his comfortable complacency. The two first meet when seminarian Mark Dolson speaks up during Father Farley's Sunday sermon, arguing in favor of ordaining women into the priesthood. Intrigued by the youthful firebrand, Farley requests Dolson be assigned to his church -- kicking off plenty of conflict. Ultimately, though, each accepts some valuable insights from the other on becoming a better spiritual leader, not to mention a better man.

    »Griffin House

    October 30, 2014 7:00 PM

Griffin House is a singer/songwriter from Ohio who turned down an athletic scholarship to Ohio University and opted to pursue music. In high school, he landed a role in a musical and found he had a natural talent for singing, so he bought a 100 dollar used guitar, went to MIami University in Oxford, OH and taught himself how to play guitar and write music. His self-released album Upland, in 2003 attracted attention from the Vancouver-based label Nettwerk, who released House's 2004 follow up album, Lost & Found. Within the year of the album's release, MTV and VH1 music journalist Bill Flanagan praised the album's emotionally stimulating lyrics on CBS Sunday Morning, calling House one of the best emerging songwriters in the US. House has released several of his following albums on his imprint label, Evening Records, including his acclaimed 2007 record, Flying Upside Down.

    »Evil Dead: The Musical

    October 30, 2014 8:00 PM

Bloody, hilarious and full of classic horror camp, "Evil Dead: The Musical" combines the best parts of Sam Raimi's '80s cult-film empire into one of the craziest theatrical experiences of all time. The show tells the tale of five college students who travel to a cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force -- but that's where the scary stuff ends. With lots of upbeat musical numbers, slapstick comedy, horrible puns from a tongue-in-cheek demon and some very sadistic trees, "Evil Dead: The Musical" comes to the Pearl Theater, complete with a special "splatter zone" where audience members get drenched by the on-stage mayhem (though appropriate clothing-protection gear is provided). Farce and gore come together at this tale of a sleepover in the woods, which gives a whole new meaning to the word "camp."

    »K.flay, Night Riots

    October 30, 2014 8:00 PM

K.Flay is a hip-hop artist from Wilmette, Illinois who stumbled upon rapping after having a discussion about modern rap music during her freshman year at Stanford. To prove a point that most radio hits were formulaic compositions packed with simple rhymes and a fair dose of misogyny, she wrote a rap parody called "Blingity Blang Blang," and found she enjoyed the process. She continued to write songs, taking it more seriously each time, and released her debut album Suburban Rap Queen, during her junior year in 2004. With natural flow, clever wordplay and electric guitar flourishes, she captured a widespread audience that has only grown after each of her subsequent records. K.Flay dropped her debut mixtape, Mashed Potatoes, in 2009 and has since shared the stage with hip-hop heavyweights like Snoop Dogg and Ludacris.
