Having spent the majority of his childhood in New Orleans, singer/songwriter and musician Chris Smither is heavily influenced by the blues of Louisiana as well as American folk music. Acting off of the advice of his musical hero Eric Von Schmidt, Smither moved to Cambridge, MA and began writing and performing his own songs. He developed a local following and released his debut album I'm a Stranger, Too, in 1970. He has since been performing and releasing his brand of blues-inspired Americana that is best exemplified on the 2006 effort, Leave the Light On. The album featured the hit track "Diplomacy," earned him the 42nd spot on Rolling Stone's list of 100 Best Songs of the Year.

With humble origins in Georgia, Billy Currington left his home to pursue a professional music career in Nashville, and like so many before him, his first attempt at making it in the industry was unsuccessful. After retracting to work various day jobs, he eventually got his demo tapes into the right hands and landed a recording contract with Mercury Records in 2003. Later the same year, Currington dropped his eponymous debut album and has since become a well-respected character around Nashville.

    The Invincible Czars (Austin, TX)
    http://invincibleczars.com/

"The Invincible Czars, from catchy name to daunting stage presence, are a rare breed. They bring bizarre, but methodical math-rock heavily influenced by classical music, polka, and even some country and jazz. Self-described as "a rock soundtrack to a sci-fi film with interruptions by a myriad of genres," we couldn't agree more...the Czars are renowned for eclectic and sophisticated compositions. Oh yeah, they're classy all right. They've arranged music for works like Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker Suite" and Mussorgsky's "A Night on Bald Mountain." - The Austinist

Austin's Invincible Czars have become known and lauded for their sprawling catalog of original material and for arrangements of classical works such as Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and 1812 Overture. They are currently documenting their silent film works in a new CD-R series, rehearsing a re-working of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition to be performed as a double-band with Austin avant jazz-rockers Bee vs. Moth and developing more original material.

The group's original songs and instrumental pieces are highly composed "mini-symphonies" chock full of memorable melodies, meticulous arrangements, dynamics, and humor. They fuse riff rock, classical music, loungey grooves, spacey klezmer, country shuffles, and circusy polka. They draw from a myriad of disparate influences from Prokofiev to Primus, Louis Armstrong to Van Halen, and Bach to Zappa. The band applies the DIY attitude of post-punk groups like NoMeansNo and Fugazi to their musical explorations, resulting in a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.

The group's annual dance-it-yourself Nutcracker Kids' Show has become an annual tradition and other seasonal events like the Olde Fashioned Independence Day Indoor Picnic set them apart from their peers. They even co-present an unofficial showcase during South by Southwest each year called the Bizarrebecue, presenting the best of international art rock in Austin during SxSW.

The Invincible Czars are known by many for their original new scores for silent movies which they perform live at indoor and outdoor theaters. In their eleven years of existence, the band has performed at private events, nightclubs, parks, theaters, museums, radio stations, community centers, museums, grocery stores, restaurants, television stations, sky scraper plazas, bedrooms and radio studios from San Francisco to New Orleans.

NEEDTOBREATHE is an alternative/Christian rock band from Seneca, SC that was formed by brothers Bear and Bo Rinehart. The Rineharts began playing music together while attending their father's church camp, and during their college years, Bo dedicated himself to guitar while Bear focused on vocals, guitar and piano. The brothers were soon joined by bassist Seth Bolt and drummer Joe Stillwell to form NEEDTOBREATHE. After recording several EPs, the band came to the attention of Atlantic Records in 2005. The band released its debut album Daylight, in 2006, and the band's success grew steadily with each of its following releases. NEEDTOBREATHE released its fourth album, The Reckoning, in 2011 and subsequently reached a mainstream fan base while traveling with Taylor Swift for the North America segment of her Speak Now World Tour.
