    The 39 Steps
    Grace Theater - A .D. PlayersSeptember 25, 2014 7:30 PM
    2710 W. Alabama
    Houston, TX 77098
This ingenious comic stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "The 39 Steps" turns a cast of four into more than 100 zany characters (in 100 minutes) with a mix of Hitchcockian panache, spy novel thrills and a touch of Monty Python absurdity. The winner of two Tony and Drama Desk Awards, "The 39 Steps" is a fast-paced and funny whodunit that's brimming with action and romance. Accused of a murder he didn't commit, Richard Hannay flees from the authorities and encounters a string of hair-raising adventures -- as well as an unlikely love connection. Gasp and guffaw as four talented actors re-enact the entire film (including every train chase, plane crash and murder), gleefully portraying the many spies, villains and other intriguing characters that inhabit this action-packed world.

    Peace In Our Time

Master playwright Noël Coward's "Peace in Our Time" poses the terrifying, yet intriguing question: What if the Nazis had won the Battle of Britain? Written in 1946, this taut drama exploring everyday life under occupation takes place in a South London pub with a diverse cast of collaborators and rebels, including writers, artists, members of the resistance, working-class Brits and, of course, officers of the Third Reich. The tension builds, leading to a surprising and ironic climax. Main Street Theater's production features a cast of 21, which includes performers from the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance.

    Women In The Pit
    The Ensemble TheaterSeptember 25, 2014 7:30 PM
    3535 Main Street
    Houston, TX 77002
See the sparks fly when a Baptist church stuck in its ways starts considering a highly qualified but decidedly female candidate as its new pastor in the thought-provoking drama "Women in the Pit". Mount Zion Baptist Church hasn't had a proper pastor in six years and under the poor leadership of its elders and deacons, membership is plummeting. So the head honchos put the job on the market, but things get hairy when the best applicant to emerge winds up being the Rev. E.R. George, a devout, fiercely intelligent religious figure who also happens to be a woman. Contemporary and traditional Biblical arguments ensue as churchgoers take both sides of the fence, and the Rev. George's troubled daughter finds herself caught in the middle.

    The Airborne Toxic Event
House of Blues HoustonSeptember 25, 2014
    1204 Caroline Street
    Houston, TX 77002
The Airborne Toxic Event was formed in 2006 around lyricist Mikel Jollett, a former novelist and writer of prose with no background in music. After a series of life-altering events, he began to pen songs, and gathered the members of what is now The Airborne Toxic Event in a natural progression. Integrating classical instruments with contemporary rock sounds, The Airborne Toxic Event has built up a following of unparalleled devotion. The group's poetic, searing and elegant lyrics and sophisticated musical abilities have attracted intense critical acclaim from all angles. 2010 saw the release of a documentary film, All I Ever Wanted, which followed the band's epic sold-out concert at L.A.'s Walt Disney Concert Hall.
