    »One Direction

    September 16, 2014 7:01 PM

Comprised of five young men, One Direction is an English band that first rose to fame after it competed on the popular British talent show X Factor. Though the group didn't win the competition, it managed to come in third place and showcase its music and style to a large televised audience. Quick to follow up with its popularity in lieu of its appearance on X Factor, One Direction released its debut album, Up All Night, in 2011. The album--a polished pop effort that showcases the vocal talents of each member-- performed quite respectably on the British music charts and as the band continues to release more studio material and tour, it's popularity will no doubt continue to grow.

    »Clipping.

    September 16, 2014 8:00 PM

Clipping. is an experimental hip-hop trio from Los Angeles that uses snippets of harsh noise in place of beats. Capturing cold, threatening vibrations in moments of both abrasive and subtle sound clippings, the group is fronted by Daveed Diggs, who somehow injects his own rhythms into the otherwise manic flow of each track. Clipping. released its debut album, midcity, in 2013 and subsequently captured an international audience with its curious, progressive sound.

    »The Breeders

    September 16, 2014

When alternative rock outfit The Pixies were on tour in Europe, the band's bassist, Kim Deal, had an idea to start a side project. The band she envisioned would come to be called The Breeders and it would make a unique style of pop influenced rock, fairly similar to The Pixies - but with Deal singing instead of Frank Black. The group became a reality, released a number of recordings over the years and is held by many in indie rock circles as an extremely pertinent band to emerge out of the late 1980s.
