Presently, this facility is the second largest in the Maricopa district, with more than 19,000 students utilizing its services each semester. Educational offerings include associate degree programs, occupational certificates and transferable credits. Arizona Buddhist Temple carries the distinction of being the oldest Buddhist temple in the state. Built in the 1930s, it was closed for a time during World War II, then ravaged by fire and rebuilt in 1961. Affiliated with the Buddhist Churches of America and Nishi Hongwanji in Kyoto, Japan, the temple is open to all people to hear the Dharma together as one family. This is in accordance with the teachings of the Buddha and Shinran Shonin. Educational programs include teachings of Buddhism for Pre-K through high school, as well as adults. Credit cards are not accepted.
Join thrill seekers at this fast half-mile oval track every Friday and Saturday night for exciting racing action. Open practice is offered on Tuesdays. Semi-banked one-third clay tracks also set the scene for challenging events. This converted dog track has been providing fans with adrenalin-pumping performances since 1951. Divisions include midgets, Arizona sprints and mini sprints, and IMCA modified and circle trucks. Stock car divisions include factory stocks, super stocks and bomber stocks brought straight from the wreckers to the track. Tickets for adults range $10-15, and kids age 12 and under are free.
At Westworld Xtreme Pursuit Paintball, more than 30,000 square feet are available for playing shoot-em-up in air-conditioned comfort. Professional referees, field props and specialized lighting systems are featured. Both beginners and professional players are both welcome to pursue opponents. Player orientation is provided.
