»Mary Washington House

This well preserved display house, which was bought by Sir George Washington for his mother in the year 1772, is located on the corner of Charles and Lewis street. It served as a residence for Mary Washington for 17 years until her death in 1789, and has been under the administration of Association for the Preservation of Virginian Antiquities (A.P.V.A.) since 1891. The house showcases the possessions of the house of that time and also comprises of a well-maintained garden.

Administered by the University of Mary Washington, the James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library is dedicated to the life of James Monroe and his family. The museum houses a collection of more than 1,600 artifacts that were passed on by the descendants of the 5th President of the United States during the initiation of the museum in 1927.
