    »Dougherty Museum

    The Dougherty Museum is the pinnacle of Ray G. Dougherty antique collections of lovingly restored classic cars, gramophones created by Edison, musical organs and farm equipments. Opened in 1977, the museum is home to rare cars such as the 1909 Mobile Steamer, Stanley Steamers and many models that were powered by steam and electricity. Most of them are more than a century old and are in good running condition.

Driving through the area you cannot help but notice mining's manifestations on the surrounding landscape. The Lafayette Miners Museum celebrates the mining tradition in a restored coal mining cabin. Dating back to the 1890s, the six room cabin, run by the Louisville Historical Society, features period clothing and furniture, along with various mining tools of the day.

    Carroll Shelby International is the manufacturer of the popular GT, Cobra and Daytona speed demons on the American road today. And this is the shop where to see some amazing vehicles. On display, the owners have the 289 and 427 cobra models as well as the GT40, 350 and 500 respectively. Every now and then the museum hosts races that include some of the vehicles and they even race against each other! In addition to racing, visitors can also purchase memorabilia and mementos from these muscle cars at the gift shop.

    Ed Trumble, founder and owner of Leanin' Tree Company, started selling greeting cards with a distinctive western flair to local ranchers over 50 years ago. As his business evolved, he began collecting original works from the artists that adorned the cards. In 1974, he opened a museum to display the works, and today it is one of the largest collections of Western art in the nation. Featuring 93 artists and an array of paintings and bronze sculptures, the museum has welcomed more than 500,000 visitors since its conception. The museum's gift shop offers an assortment of Western souvenirs including the famous Leanin' Tree greeting cards.

    The Louisville Historical Museum is handily located in the heart of downtown Louisville and is a lovely change of pace from the shopping, restaurants, and general festivals of the area. Featuring both traditional relic displays and one of the original homes in Louisville preserved from the 1800s, the Louisville Historical Museum offers a hands-on educational experience for those wanting to know a bit about the mining town's origins and about what life was like for early Colorado settlers. The museum has mining instruments, photos, and special exhibits commemorating important moments in town history, while the house is an exciting way for younger visitors to see what it was like to live without television, Internet, or running water.
