»Celtic Woman

December 17, 2014 7:30 PM

Hailing from Dublin, Celtic Woman is a five-piece female vocal group that banded together in 2004. Though members have come and gone, the band has molded seamlessly between different lineups and with additional touring members by focusing on its repertoire of traditional and modern tunes. Though the concept of five women singing traditional folk music while dressed in ballgowns sounds a bit over-the-top, Celtic Woman is centered on talent without gimmicks. The group has reached audiences beyond Ireland and earned critical acclaim for its world music in entertainment juggernauts like the US.

Adapted from Dr. Seuss's beloved book of the same name, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical is a theatrical stage production that follows the tale of a bitter, cave-dwelling creature known as The Grinch. Annoyed by the cheerful Christmas festivities of the Whos of Whoville, he decides to put a stop to Christmas by stealing all of the presents, Christmas trees, food and holiday decor from the town. Just as he is about to finish the deed, he is surprised to learn what the Christmas spirit is all about. Packed with an original score and lyrics woven into familiar Dr. Seuss rhymes, the musical brings the classic children's story to life.

Down is a heavy metal band from New Orleans that has been fusing stoner and doom metal since 1991. Often referred to as a supergroup, the band's core members are all in prominent metal bands including Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar and Eyehategod. Mostly by word of mouth and the passing around of the band's demo tape, Down attracted enough attention for its 1995 debut album NOLA, that the record went platinum and earned widespread critical acclaim in the metal community. Now hailed as a landmark album, the record spawned the bands first tour, though its members returned to their respective bands upon the group's return. Down returned in 2002 with Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow, and has since continued to record and perform music.
