»Bass Drum Of Death

January 31, 2015 8:00 PM

Bass Drum of Death is the brainchild of John Barrett, an indie rock musician from Mississippi. The band's name comes from its early days, when Barrett would perform solo with only an electric guitar and a bass drum around 2008, when he started the project. Soon after, Colin Sneed was recruited to play the drums full-time and the duo began cranking out noise-riddled garage rock nuggets full of lo-fi distortion and a punk rock pace. Bass Drum of Death released its debut LP, entitled GB City, in 2011, and has been touring the world and collaborating with the likes of the Odd Future collective ever since.

The Expendables is a band bred from the skate, surf, and party ethos of music made popular in the late 1990s by bands from Orange County, Long Beach and Santa Cruz. The group's releases are laden with upbeat beach grooves, but with a biting ska edge. Fittingly, the Santa Cruz band signed to Stoopid Records, owned by the band Slighty Stoopid, in the early 2000s.

»Excision

February 02, 2015 7:00 PM

Canadian DJ and producer Jeff Abel combines hip-hop, bass music, dub and a bit of rock influence in his Excision project. Since 2004, Abel has been tinkering with various electronic styles, ultimately settling comfortably into simplistic 2-step rhythms and reverberated dubstep-esque bass blasts. Refusing to adhere to a often tranquil sonic state, Abel employs hard-hitting bass tones, propulsive drum patterns and jarring, sci-fi sounds to make his music more aggressive than a lot of his contemporaries.
