The Bibliothèque Carnegie or Municipal Library in Reims was thrown open to the public in 1928 after being named after Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish philanthropist who was known for donating funds to set up libraries. The brilliant art-deco style was the brainchild and combined effort of Max Sainsaulieu and local glass maker Jacques Simon. A stained-glass canopy in the main reading room has for decades, captured the imagination of whoever sat beneath it. Maps, manuscripts, posters and iconography collections from centuries ago, are carefully preserved within the confines of  Bibliothèque Carnegie.
