A walkway at the entrance of the church, includes stone plaques that takes visitors through the history of the church.

The Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral is historic church located in Bardstown, Kentucky. Built in 1823, this Catholic parish was constructed by John Rogers using Greek Revival style influences. The church also features a number of paintings donated by notable personalities like King Louis-Philippe of France. This cathedral is also the first one to be built west of the Allegheny mountains. The site was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
