Since 1906, the El Paso Country Club has provided locals with golf, tennis, swimming, events and overall fitness under the hot, southwestern sun. The par-71 course is lined with cottonwoods along the greens and the grounds hold a pro shop, driving ranges and more. The tennis courses are pristine and the club provides opportunities to learn with instructional programs. The EPCC has a massive Olympic-sized swimming pool and the cardio/fitness center has everything you need to feel better.

»River Park Trail

This paved trail that stretches over 20 miles from Anthony, TX to El Paso is a nature lover's dream. From walking, jogging and cycling to horseback riders and the occasional mini-bike, this trail is in perpetual flux. It runs right alongside the Rio Grande as well as the New Mexico-Texas border. Along the way, almost all of the viewpoints allow you to stop and get a closer look at the signposts which depict the trail's natural history and development. Overall, the trail is an excellent place to get some exercise.

El Paso's small Train Museum, located just a block south of the Convention Center, Features a restored El Paso & Southwestern Railroad Locomotive Number One that dates from 1857. The area has a rich railroad history, retold through various archival footage and artwork. A small children's play area lies to the side. Admission is free, but donations are much appreciated.

»El Paso Zoo

The El Paso Zoo, though modest in size and means, aims to preserve and conserve as many species as possible. The 18-acre grounds feature hundreds of different types, from Amur leopards, Asian elephants, Sumatran Orangutans, alligators, and a host of fish and birds. In the morning the tiny tykes can meet sea lions, and on the African Star train, kids can get a really close look at some of the smaller animals, like the African hedgehog or an opossum. Every autumn the zoo puts on a two-day Elephant Festival. Don't miss it!

The Ascarate Golf Courses are located in the larger park of the same name. The 18-hole golf course is perfect for any level, and the 9-hole executive course is great for a quick round. Since its opening in 1955, the course has attracted golfers from nearby as well as those from afar. Both golf courses offer a challenge, with their curves, bends and slopes that are unique. There are also golfing programs arranged here for beginners.
