    October 25, 2014 8:00 PM

Despite jazz being lauded as "musicians' music," there really hasn't been much innovation within the genre. The Bad Plus is an exception. The trio from Minneapolis, Minnesota has a unique approach to playing jazz and unlike other contemporary jazz acts, The Bad Plus isn't afraid to incorporate modern songwriting elements into its songs. The band has even played covers of songs from rock bands like Queen, The Pixies, Rush and Interpol.

Getting his start in the San Francisco Bay Area, Castro played a number of dingy small clubs until he was noticed by BB King in 2001, who asked Castro to open up for him on his North American tour.
