    »Corn Maze

    Officially the world's largest corn maze, Dixon's Corn Maze covers more than 40 acres (16 hectares) of land. The maze is also known for its penchant for getting its visitors to lose their way, within minutes of entering it. The intricate passage-ways are an exciting feature of this maze, and finding one's way through them is quite a challenging yet fun-filled activity. Corn Maze is a part of Cool Patch Pumpkins, a recreational destination that also features a scarecrow exhibit as well as several varieties of pumpkins on display.     »California Raptor Center

    Vultures, screech owls and bald eagles are among the birds displayed in living-room-sized cages along tree-shaded pathways. The volunteers and professional veterinarians affiliated with California Raptor Center release about 65 percent of their patients after successful treatments ranging from surgery to physical therapy. The staff leads Hawk Walks to view recently released birds in the surrounding habitat. Visitors can view demonstrations of techniques such as "on the fist." During monthly events, staff lectures and presentations focus on the fascinating features of raptor biology and ecology. Admission is free.

    »UC Davis Arboretum

    Thousands of school children come here to learn about the native plants on this unique 80-acre preserve. During day camps in July and August, children get an up-close-and-personal look at nature. Other year-round activities for children include guided tours through the redwoods and occasionally the staff offers stargazing sessions. The Arboretum is not just for children. The staff offers gardening and landscaping workshops for adults.

    »Community Park

    Situated between F Street and Oak Avenue, the Community Park sits pretty. It has a community pool, a tennis court, two play areas, a public skate park and a dog park. The 28 acres of lush greenery and fun is open during the day. The skating park, which has a concrete ramp, is open for skateboarding. It also features many soccer fields and softball backstops.

The Center holds programs, lectures, field trips, assemblies, nature labs and safaris for schools.     »Yolo Basin Foundation

    Yolo Basin Foundation was established in 1990 to conserve the Yolo Wildlife Area. It focuses on environmental education and restoration of the Yolo Bypass Region, in cooperation with the California Department of Fish & Game. The organization introduces people to wildlife, and teaches them to live harmoniously alongside; it is also a sponsor for non-profit events, such as California Duck Days.     Conveniently located across from the Sacramento Zoo, Funderland is an amusement park designed for kids 12 and under. Popular rides include the Tea Cups, the Dragon Coaster, the Airplanes, and the Funderland train. There is also a carousel and old-fashioned bumper cars.     Fairytale Town is a world of Mother Goose where fairy tales come to life. Children can chase each other around the crooked mile and crawl on the tortoise and the hare. Captain Hook's pirate ship, Owl's tree house and King Arthur's table are all here. The petting zoo has a variety of animals to see, from sheep to donkeys. You can bring a picnic lunch or purchase hot dogs, corn dogs, nachos and drinks from a concession stand.

    »Raley Field

    The seats in Raley Field offer a nice view of the Sacramento skyline. The park has more than 11,000 seats and is a popular venue for concerts, festivals and other events. It is also home to the Sacramento River Cats, a baseball team who holds the 2007 Pacific League Champions title. There are concession stands offering the usual ballpark fare, as well as Mexican cuisine, pizza, barbecue and grilled veggie sandwiches. Beverages include soft drinks and a variety of micro brews on tap.
