Originally from Woodstock, New York the jazz and funk trio Soulive is made up of Eric Krasno on guitar Alan Evans on drums and his brother Neal on keyboards. While Soulive is ostensibly a trio, the three collaborate and record with a constantly rotating cast of musicians. Former collaborators include John Scofield, Maceo Parker, Reggie Watts, Talib Kweli, and song remixes by DJ Krush and DJ Spinna. A central component to Soulive's music is their live experience as they tour heavily through out the year, release as many live albums as original albums, and incorporate a significant amount ofsou improvisation into their live performances. Soulive released Rubber Soulive in 2010, a cover of The Beatles classic 1965 album Rubber Soul.

A pioneer of the emo movement, Mineral is an Austin-based indie band that was initially formed in 1994. After releasing two albums, starting with 1997's The Power of Failing, the band split up before the decade was over, but its angsty lyrics, melodic vocals and soft, pensive guitar stylings went on to influence the subsequent wave of emo music that emerged in the 2000s. After nearly two decades of inactivity, Mineral announced a reunion tour in 2014.
