Bars & Cafes
Don't expect a lot when you enter Tucos Wine Market and Cafe. A wine tasting place and restaurant, it's got loads of bottles arranged on shelves, large wine coolers and a multifunctional bar. The food here is organic and the portions are large. Wine-tasting can be a lot of fun here, with four different wines to sample at a very low price. This is as simple as it gets.
If you are looking for a happening dive bar while in Davis for binge drinking and that comes with a lot of options to keep you occupied, then head to the G Street WunderBar. Apart from an array of well-crafted beers and tasty mixed drinks, the bar has several pool tables, dartboards, video games, free Wi-Fi and late-night concerts scheduled almost every week. Here, you can also dine on tantalizing options in American food that are prepared from freshest of ingredients. All in all, the bar is a perfect place to hangout with friends.
Sudwerk is a great place to catch a fast meal and some beer! Copper-colored kettles and huge circular structured seats make up the decor. The ambiance is very unruly, with noise levels touching the top of the decibel chart! The food is all German and you should give the sausages, burgers and sandwiches a try. While you're in the lobby gulping the food down, walk over to the bar for some exquisite Sudwerk beer. All the beer is brewed in accordance with "Reinheitsgebot”—the German purity law. It can get boisterous in here, but that's the fun of it all!
The coffee is always fresh here at Mishka's Cafe, thanks to the ancient gigantic coffee grinder/roaster sitting amidst the tables in this busy cafe. There is an eclectic mix of sandwiches and salads as well as calzones, wraps, ice cream, smoothies and Italian sodas among other delicacies. In addition to the aroma of coffee the atmosphere is culturally spiced up with local musicians playing favorite numbers.
If you dig everything natural, you should visit the Farmer's Kitchen Cafe. They grow vegetables and fruits sans fertilizers, that are bio-regional and free from gluten and casein. And while cooking no aluminum pans, microwaves, artificial flavoring and unnatural additives are used. The menu revolves around local produce, eggs and farm products, so everything here is seasonal. The bakery basket is worth checking out, full as it is of pastries, cakes, pretzels, cookies and chocolates.
The breakfast at Delta Of Venus features homemade granola, three-egg omelets and organic tofu scrambles. The service is casual but effective. Taking your order at the wooden counter inside, the cashier doubles as a waiter and brings the quickly executed dish to your table. The menu also features coffee drinks, fresh salads, homemade soups and a variety of sandwiches for lunch. You'll find a table in one of the three dining rooms indoors or on the patio.
Konditorei in German means a pastry shop. Owned and run by the Austrian couple Albert and Gloria Kutternig, this pastry store sells lip-smacking goodies. You would find anything and everything here—cakes, cookies, sweet breads, pastries, marzipan creations, ice creams, tarts and more. If this isn't enough, you can even have a quick breakfast and lunch of quiches, calzones, pizzas and soups. And finally, with an ambiance that spells old world charm, Konditorei can possibly never go wrong!
Between Davis and Woodland along Highway 113 at the County Road 25A exit, this winery is the centerpiece of a scenic acreage planted with seven types of grapes. Wine available for tasting is grown just outside the door of this cafe. It offers desserts, meat pasties and an interesting Napa cabbage and Mandarin orange salad during the week. On Sundays, reservations are recommended for the two hour-long, five-course brunch. Various coffee drinks especially the espresso are popular.
Lawyers, farmers, students and antique collectors are likely to populate this bar on a typical afternoon. Friday and Saturday nights, the regulation pool table is pushed out of the way, and dancers crowd the floor. The music will probably be a local rhythm and Blues or country band. Sunday nights bring out the local billiard talent for a contest with prizes that make the competition interesting. There is no food here, however, there is a decent collection of beers on tap as well as mixed drinks.

Remember the high school hangouts of the 1950s—heaping dishes of ice cream sundaes and malts, served up by other high school kids? That is Vic's today. Every bite of ice cream is handmade and scooped up liberal portions. For a real treat, try Jik Jak, chocolate ice cream with almonds, cinnamon, malt powder and fudge. Vic's gets very crowded on summer evenings, so you might want to take some of its ice cream pies home with you.
