»Lake Lanier Islands

What were formerly large hills, got converted into islands after the Buford Dam was created on Chattahoochee River. The flooding of the river resulted in the creation of Lake Lanier, on which the islands are located. The state of Georgia, owned the islands formerly, but now these are privately owned and have become a highly popular vacation destination for those visiting Atlanta and adjoining cities.
