In This Moment

Corpus Christi, TX 78401
A poster child for how quickly social media sites can launch a band's career out of nowhere, metalcore outfit In This Moment has enjoyed a steady career since 2005, due in large part to its successful Myspace marketing campaign. The grouped formed in Los Angeles, the result of a random meeting between vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth. A mutual appreciation for melodic metal and hard rock prompted them to work together, and soon their musical partnership was given a name and fleshed out to become a five-piece. The rough demos that In This Moment released on Myspace took off, helping the band land a recording deal with Century Media Records. The resulting debut album, 2007's Beautiful Tragedy, is full of the aggressive metalcore rhythms and anthemic pop hooks that are now characteristic of the band's music.

The Spazmatics

Corpus Christi, TX 78401
Originally conceived in 1983 by physics professor Kevin Stigwoodt, The Spazmatics was born when Stigwood lost a bet and had to perform "She Blinded Me With Science" at halftime of his school's state championship basketball game. He enlisted the help of electronics teacher Sydney Balderman, his brother Curtis Stigwood and a TA named Rusty A. Woosmeir. The group stunned the student body with its spot on production, musicianship and choreography, earning a standing ovation. The makeshift band was approached by producers from Perfect World Entertainment to create a proper production that would go on to become a nation-wide celebration of the best and worst of 1980's music and fashion. Now pegged as The Ultimate New Wave 1980s Show, versions of The Spazmatics have popped up all across the US in major cities including Chicago, Houston and Austin, TX while the original Los Angeles-based group continues to perform weekly gigs at Zanzibar in Santa Monica while also rotating around to various clubs around the area.
