»Santah

March 27, 2015 9:00 PM

Santah is a five-piece band from Chicago; none of the members of the group resemble the bearded fat man that the group takes its moniker from, though. The group plays a mellow style of alternative rock that's driven by piano and guitar arrangements, as well as by lead singer Stan McConnell's far reaching--albeit unprofessionally trained--voice. Santah released its debut LP, White Noise Bed, in 2011 and by playing a significant amount of shows, the group has managed to create a certain amount of buzz around itself with high-energy stage performances.

Masked Intruder is a pop punk band from Madison, Wisconsin that released its self titled debut album in 2012. Blending adolescent irreverence with and a simple punk instrumental ethos, the band has managed to latch onto a fairly sizable following on its native Midwestern turf. Though Masked Intruder might be difficult for some listeners to find enjoyment in, for fans of skate and pop punk, the group will undoubtedly prove enjoyable.

»Split Lip Rayfield

March 27, 2015 10:00 PM

Blending the worlds of bluegrass, alt-country and cow punk, the Wichita, Kansas-based group Split Lip Rayfield has pioneered its own unique sound and dictated its own unique approach to songwriting. Originally a quartet that was formed in 1995, the band's guitarist was diagnosed with throat cancer--an aliment that the instrumentalist would eventually succumb to in 2007--which forced Split Lip Rayfield to scale back to a trio. With a characteristic sound that harks back to the glory days of barn dances in Appalachia, the band's music is best enjoyed in a live setting, where the three musicians in the band are able to perfectly showcase their adept instrumental skills.
