»Cinderella

January 31, 2015 7:30 PM

Based on the classic folk tale by French author Charles Perrault, Cinderella follows the story of a young woman whose life of hardships is turned upside down. Though there have been thousands of adaptations for both the stage and big screen in several different languages, the foundation of the tale is often left untouched. A common version depicts Cinderella living a ragged life under the control of her stepmother and stepsisters, who are jealous of Cinderella's beauty and grace. When Cinderella's cruel family prevents her from attending the royal ball for Prince Charming, an attempt by the King and Queen to find a bride for their son, her fairy godmother comes to her aid and transforms her rags into a beautiful gown. Cinderella shows up to the ball and immediately catches the eye of Prince Charming, but she is forced to abruptly leave the party at midnight, when she returns to her true form, before the Prince can catch her name. A tale of hope and overcoming obstacles, Cinderella is an enduring narrative that has proven its lasting power through centuries of storytelling.

»Doomtree

February 04, 2015 8:00 PM

Doomtree is an alternative hip-hop project based out of Minneapolis. The collective features a number of rappers, vocalists and producers, including Cecil Otter, Dessa, Lazerbeak, Sims and probably the most well-known member P.O.S. Due to its members' diverse backgrounds and upbringings, Doomtree's music contains traces of rock, punk and soul in its sometimes odd, sometimes funny party raps. The group seems hardly concerned with stereotypical rap posturing, which will be a breath of fresh air for hip-hop fans looking for beats and rhymes without the excess frills. False Hopes, the collective's first studio album, was released in 2007.
