Built by Colarado University in 1908, this gorgeous Tudor-style dormitory was built to house the ladies of the university. Opposite a residential quadrangle just west of Armstrong Quadrangle, Bernis Hall, in addition to comfortable dormitory settings for women, has a splendid lounge with wood paneling and ceiling beams and a dining room still used by the students for special occasions. Bernis Hall was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
Divided into three large floors, the Armstrong Hall is one of the biggest structures at Colorado College. It houses over 25 conference rooms, classrooms, a humanities and a multi-media lab, most of the administrative offices and a large theater used for drama productions and dance performances. The Max Kade theater is used for lectures, screenings of student films and foreign-language theater productions. With so many facilities available, there is hardly anything that the Armstrong Hall does not provide!
As the only comedy club in Colorado Springs, it attracts some of the best comics on the circuit. In the past Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen Degeneres and Sam Kinison have graced its stage. The owner likes to mix the acts up so each week changes from straight stand-up to improv to the amazingly popular hypnotist shows. Originally known as the Colorado Springs High School, the school was renamed after the city's founder, General William Jackson Palmer. The school has a theater called the Palmer High School Theater which is a venue for theatrical events of 'Capitol Steps', which is a musical comedy show.
