The Walk Across America For Mother Earth

In this inspired mix of music, cultural satire, commedia dell'arte and underground drag show, a pair of disillusioned young pals hope to find a greater purpose when they escape suburbia to join "The Walk Across America for Mother Earth". But instead of a nomadic utopia, this well-intentioned group of ragtag radicals falls prey to the very same problems they sought to leave behind, from unrequited love to the unslaked thirst for power. Charles Isherwood of "The New York Times" praised Taylor Mac's Off-Broadway play, calling it "smart, funny and ultimately quite moving." This Red Tape Theatre production appears in Chicago as part of Steppenwolf's prestigious Garage Rep season.

What happens when gay men start bashing back? This is the central question of "Angry Fags", a comedy about two gay men who take matters into their own hands after a friend is the victim of a hate crime. After that first rush of revenge, the two seek out bigger targets, eventually setting their sights on political figures. But the results don't always turn out as planned, and even the best intentions can go awry. Follow along on this "Fight Club"-like voyage of self-discovery at Chicago's famed Steppenwolf Theatre.

Steppenwolf in Chicago presents a guillotine-sharp, contemporary-sounding satire that morphs into a real tragedy as it tells the true story of a fabulously wealthy, fashion-setting teenage drama queen whose last name could've well been Cyrus or Kardashian. But France's famed 18th-century monarch "Marie Antoinette" has her own issues dealing with fickle fame and fortune, especially as her once-loyal subjects begin to royally despise her in the midst of an economic downturn. Multi-award-winning playwright and Guggenheim Fellow David Adjmi wrote this play, and "New York" magazine calls his version of the historical drama "marvelous, disturbing, revisionist."
