Learn about the two lions that killed over 135 railroad workers and villagers in the span of 9 months. The killings occurred during the construction of a railroad bridge across the Tsavo River in East Africa. Terrified, many workers fled the area and did not return until John Henry Patterson managed to kill both lions in 1898. Currently, Field Museum staff members are conducting ecological studies in the Tsavo region and genetic studies on the different types of lions in the area.
