Located around Brinker Lake, George Wyth State Park offers various activities like camping, picnicking, trails for hiking and biking, boating and fishing in the lake and so on. In winter, the slopes are also great for skiing and snowboarding.
Inaugurated in 1881, a Queen Anne style villa on Commercial Street houses the Waterloo Public Library. The library also has a performance hall within its premises as well as a local history museum in its Terwillger hall.
Lincoln Park in Waterloo is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Picnic areas allow families and friends to get together and put up a grill, and enjoy a sport or two. The manicured lawns are replete with towering trees and water fountains that are a scenic addition to the cityscape. The park also hosts an array of concerts, community festivities, shows and cultural events.
Lost Island Water Park is one of the biggest water parks in the entire state. From mini rides and pools to adrenalin pumping water slides, the park offers a wide range of attractions for all kinds of people. The park also has a mini-golf course.
Cedar Valley Arboretum & Botanic Gardens are located in the vicinity of the Hawkeye Community College. The agriculture department utilizes a big part of the arboretum to plant crops. Many varieties of shrubs including rose, juniper and ninebark grow in the gardens.
Bennington No. 4 or the Bennington School is a historic school that featured only a single classroom. A school, a community center and now a historical landmark, this school has certainly come a long way. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
